Keep
First Things First When Raising Kids
Child development experts know: for preschoolers, acquiring
healthy learning attitudes is far more important than mastery
of specific skills.
Please
compare: Teeny Tumblers is not like less sophisticated preschool
gymnastics programs. The Teeny Tumbler curriculum is carefully
designed for exactly what children need most during these
formative years. In Teeny Tumblers, gymnastics skills are
used as tools to teach learning attitudes while skill mastery
is a secondary goal. As parents and teachers, the most important
thing for us to remember is that learning attitudes are formed
during the preschool years. THERE IS NO SECOND CHANCE IN A
PERSON'S LIFE TO FORM POSITIVE LEARNING ATTITUDES THAN THE
PRESCHOOL YEARS.
Fun
is FAR MORE than Meets the Eye!
One of the objectives of Teeny Tumblers is FUN! Of course,
this is cool with the kids but parents sometimes fail to realize
the importance of fun in a learning setting. People often
feel that when fun is present, learning is not.
Nothing could be farther from the |
 |
truth. Why is fun so important?
Well adjusted learners form an early and life-long subconscious
association defining any attempt to learn something new as challenge = risk = learning = fun
The
value of this association becomes very apparent by considering
the opposite (too common) association, or, challenge = risk
= fear = anxiety. For a child with this negative association
the pain of possible failure is simply not worth the risk.
Is it any wonder why so many children learn to "insulate"
themselves from their fear and anxiety by forming apathetic
attitudes about learning such as: "who cares?" or,
"Why should I even bother to try, I'll never be able
to do it anyway?"
Pure
Fun!
OK...now that you know a little more about the goals and substance
of Teeny Tumblers we have a favor to ask you...just don't
tell the kids: they think Teeny Tumblers is just PURE FUN! Return

Age
Groups for Teeny Tumblers
Our
Teeny Tumbler Age Groupings are divided into three separate
age groups. At these tender ages, we believe these divisions
are necessary in order to create just the right learning environment
for each stage of a child's development. Few organizations
go to this trouble but we know the children feel more comfortable
and learn more in our groupings.
- Parent
Tot (1 1/2 to 3 1/2 Year Olds) - A playful, parent/tot
class centered around age appropriate developmental
movements.
Has
a strong emphasis
on socialization skills and group involvement. Parents
should be ready to get physical and involved in the
class! Parents, please dress to work out! Also, when
signing up for Parent Tot classes, the "parent" (or
grandparent or nanny) planning on participating in
the class must be clearly identified on the registration
form when signing up the child. This will be the ONLY
person allowed in the gym with the child during the
class.
- Teeny
Tumblers (3 1/2 to 4 1/2 Year Olds) - No parents needed here! There are mountains to climb,
canyons to jump, vines to swing and trampolines to jump
on. More physically challenging skills, this group gives
kids stronger bodies and sharper minds as well as a clearer
understanding of their bodies' capabilities and limitations.
This group teaches kids that a challenge is FUN!
-
Kinder
Kids (4 1/2 to 6 Year Olds) - This
age group is really beginning to step out and MOVE and
it is essential that their physical challenges be monitored
for safety, yet their attempts be rewarded. This way
the
"perceived risks" are seen as exciting challenges
and the "failed attempts" are seen for what
they are - an OK, normal piece of the learning puzzle.
Kinder Kids are able to handle a class which is slightly
more skill-oriented so, as the year moves along, we
challenge the kids with progressively more "skills" and
less "general movement". This way we prepare
the child, physically and mentally, for our developmental
gymnastics classes. Is this still FUN? ABSOLUTELY! (...just
watch 'em go!)

Parental
Advisory - Please Respect Our Age Groups!
PLEASE
respect our age groups when registering. Attempts to "fast-track"
preschoolers has negative implications for your child, the
other members of the class and the teachers. Also, please
realize that the negative impact of the "implied pressures
to learn," inevitably present in a skill-based program,
isn't fully realized until Jr. High years. That's the time
when the "I can't" attitude or the apathetic, "I
don't care" attitude usually surfaces.
